Types of Sedatives

We offer different types of sedative agents at our clinics based on your requirement. These include:

General Sedation

We provide general anesthesia for our patients who are undergoing an extensive dental procedure. You will be relaxed and unconscious and have no memory of the procedure.

Nitrous Oxide

If you fear needles, nitrous oxide is the best and safest sedative agent we offer. You will be conscious yet numb. The gas will be administered depending on the requirement.

IV Sedation

For those of you who would prefer to be conscious and responsive during the procedure, IV sedation is the best option. You will be in a state of relaxation and yet not have a clear memory of the procedure.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation involves taking a pill before your appointment to help you feel calm and relaxed during treatment. You’ll remain awake but at ease, making your dental visit more comfortable and stress-free.

General Sedation in Hamilton for Dental Treatments

Does the thought of visiting the dentist scare you? While most of us are unnerved in the dentist’s chair, some of us may suffer from severe anxiety. Sedatives can help you feel calmer and more relaxed during dental procedures. Fraccaro Dental Group in Binbrook offers general sedation or general anaesthesia that puts you in an unconscious state – a deep sleep. You will not feel any pain nor have any memory of the procedure. Our qualified anaesthetist will administer the anaesthesia and monitor you throughout the procedure.

Types of General Anaesthesia

Your comfort is our priority. If you’re undergoing an extensive dental procedure, have severe gag reflex or anxiety, you can opt for liquid or gaseous anaesthesia. The latter form will have to be inhaled. Once the procedure is complete, you will be “woken up” from your unconscious state. Our staff will be monitoring you throughout the treatment.

If you think you’re a candidate for general anaesthesia, consult our team. We will ensure to do our best to make the experience less stressful.

IV Sedation

The team at Fraccaro Dental Group strives to ensure each visit at our dental clinic is a relaxing, stress-free experience for your whole family. For those of you who suffer from severe dental anxiety or a gag reflex, we provide sedation services for your comfort. In IV sedation a drug is administered directly into your bloodstream in order to help you undergo a treatment peacefully.

Remain Conscious during IV Sedation

While general sedation puts you in a state of deep sleep, you can remain conscious with IV sedation. You can hear and respond to your dentist, but you won't feel anything or remember the procedure. You will be in a state of deep relaxation until the sedative wears off.

If you or your child requires sedatives because of anxiety or sensitive teeth, we can help you feel calmer and more relaxed. When you come in for your next appointment, please let us know about your requirements. Our team will let you know whether it’s safe to offer you sedatives. Contact us today to schedule your appointment.

Nitrous Oxide

If you suffer from severe dental anxiety or have had a bad dental experience, you may consider sedation during your next dental appointment. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a safe and effective sedative agent. Nitrous oxide sedation is a comfortable option for our patients who prefer to avoid IV sedatives.

The Procedure

When you opt for nitrous oxide sedation, the gas will be administered through a rubber hood that rests on your nose. You will feel some numbness as your body relaxes. Depending on the complexity of your dental procedure, the depth of sedation can be varied. You will remain conscious and responsive during the whole procedure while not being able to feel any pain. You will be provided with oxygen at the end of the treatment, which will make you feel normal within 5 to 10 minutes.

At Fraccaro Dental Group, we always prioritize your comfort. You are welcome to talk to us if you’re feeling worried, nervous, or anxious about your dental procedure. A sedative plan can be included if you require it.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation using a pill is a convenient and effective option for patients who feel anxious about dental visits. Taken shortly before your appointment, the medication gently relaxes your body and mind while allowing you to remain awake and responsive. Many patients feel drowsy and comfortable throughout the procedure, which makes it an excellent option for those who experience dental anxiety or fear.

This type of sedation is especially helpful for longer or more complex treatments, as it allows you to stay relaxed from start to finish. Most patients remember little to nothing about the procedure afterward, helping reduce future anxiety around dental visits. Safe and easy to administer, oral sedation provides a stress-free experience so you can focus on maintaining your oral health with confidence.
